WOW Map Addons

One smart decision by the makers of World of Warcraft was to allow users to program their own “AddOns” to help them enhance the game. Among the most important are map AddOns, which can save time and facilitate gameplay by providing coordinates and in some cases even complete maps of zone, battlegrounds, and instances.

While AddOns create great value to the overall World of Warcraft experience, one frustrating aspect is that they easily go out of date as new patches are continually released. Many widely used AddOns from just a couple years ago are not used anymore because they do not work with current versions of the game.

This page will provide gamers a guide to where they can get the most current WOW Map AddOns which are compatible with the latest versions of the game.

So without further ado, here are the top Map AddOns you should consider.

1. MiniCoords

At a minimum, almost every player needs an easy way to look up map coordinates, simply because every guide or website refers to locations by using coordinates. MiniCoords addresses the basic needs of players by providing player coordinates on both the minimap as well as the world map. Coordinates are also given for the cursor as it is moved over the world map.

2. Cartographer

This is a highly popular map AddOn that runs smoothly and provides just about everything you could want in a robust AddOn. With Cartographer, you can view maps for all zones, even ones that you have not yet explored. Additionally, it includes instance maps, coordinates, battleground maps, and the ability to customize everything from teh size of the map window to the opacity of the map, which can be overlaid over the game screen. If you have a relatively large screen, you could easily place the Cartographer world map on the edge of your screen as you play. Cartographer is powerful and robust, and comes highly recommended by many players.

Be aware, however, that the older versions still floating around all over the web will be very buggy. To get the most current versions, visit the following WOW Map AddOn page.

3. Atlas

Finally, there is Atlas, an AddOn exclusively for instance maps. As WOW players well know, instances do not display a map and force you to rely on the minimap to get through the instance, which can be rather tough, especially for larger instances. Atlas fixes this problem with images of each instance fully mapped, with the addition of other useful hints such as the location of major bosses.
